Nephrology is a branch of medicine which deals with kidney function and diseases. An understanding of kidney functioning is important not only in treating kidney disease, how ever in knowing the effect of drugs, diet, and hypertension on kidney disease.

Responsibilities of Nephrologists:

  • Diagnose and treat kidney-related disease which includes evaluating patients, as well as performing kidney transplantation and control dialysis treatments.
  • Analyze patient’s problem using the correct equipment in determining and evaluating the extent and nature of kidney disorders or injuries.
  • They take care of patients who are at a high risk for having kidney diseases, conduct teaching and provide medical advice as appropriate.
  • If considered necessary they perform dialysis or surgery on damaged kidneys and prescribe post surgical maintenance medication.

  • Should have knowledge in managing high technology devices and tools in diagnosing and treating morphological disorders.
